4-Aminobenzo-18-crown-6 (4AC) is a crown ether that binds to potassium ions and other metal cations. It has been used in the diagnosis of organisms that produce acidic urine. 4AC has also been synthesized and shown to bind single-stranded DNA, which could be useful for the detection of dna mutations. The cavity of 4AC can be modified with amines, which may allow it to target specific cells or tissues. The structural formula for 4AC is shown below:
