Cis-2-Amino-1-cyclopentanecarboxamide is a reagent that is used in reductive amination reactions. It can be used to produce amides from secondary and tertiary amines. This reagent is also useful for the synthesis of methyl ethers from primary amines, butanoates from carboxylic acids, and esters from alcohols. Cis-2-Amino-1-cyclopentanecarboxamide is a racemic mixture of two enantiomers, which are mirror images of each other. The configuration at the chiral carbon atom (C4) determines whether the compound will be an amino acid or not. For example, if C4 has an R configuration it will be an amino acid and if it has a S configuration it will not be an amino acid.
