4-Amino-1-cyclohexene-1-carboxylic acid (ACHC) is a pharmacophore molecule that has been shown to bind to the γ-aminobutyric acid receptor, or GABA receptor. ACHC has been shown to cause conformational changes in the receptor and activate it by binding to its agonist site. It also binds strongly to this site and activates the receptor, which may be due to its agonist properties.
ACHC has been shown to have a high degree of bioactivity in electrophysiological studies, as well as being able to improve the effects of other drugs on these receptors. The conformational changes induced by ACHC are also important for understanding how it interacts with the GABA receptor.
