Description:
Tolvaptan is a sulfonamide drug that inhibits the renal actions of vasopressin. It is an acid salt, which is soluble in organic solvents and can be isolated by recrystallizing from water. Tolvaptan is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other drugs, such as 1-(4-amino-2-methylbenzoyl)-7-chloro-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-5H-1-benzazepin-5-one. Tolvaptan also reacts with desalination to form sulfonic acid.
