2-Amino-2-thiazoline Hydrochloride (2AT) is a potent antihypertensive agent that has been shown to be genotoxic in vitro. 2AT binds to proton receptors, which are found in many tissues, including the brain. It is thought that this binding results in an increase of intracellular pH and subsequently causes vasodilation. 2AT also inhibits the formation of nitric oxide by inhibiting xanthine oxidase activity, which may play a role in its antiinflammatory effects.
