Description

The compound 4-[3-Amino-1-(4-hydroxyphenyl)butyl]-2-methylphenol (AMBPP) is a metal ion chelator that can be used to remove toxic metals from cells. AMBPP has been shown to inhibit viral replication in tissue culture, and can be used as an antiviral agent for the treatment of hepatitis B virus, herpes simplex virus type 2, and human cytomegalovirus infections. In addition, AMBPP has been shown to have antihistamine properties. This compound may also be useful as a vaccine adjuvant due to its ability to stimulate phagocytic cells.
