Product Information

Name:
3-Amino-5-fluorobenzonitrile
Synonyms:
  • 5-Amino-3-fluorobenzonitrile
  • 3-Amino-5-Fluorobenzonitrile
  • 1-(Bromomethyl)-4-[(Trifluoromethyl)Sulfanyl]Benzene
Description:

3-Amino-5-fluorobenzonitrile is a glutamate antagonist that binds to the metabotropic glutamate receptor, which is a G protein coupled receptor. This drug is an agonist for both the alpha and beta subtypes of this receptor, with higher affinity for the alpha subtype. 3-Amino-5-fluorobenzonitrile has a high yield and can be prepared in one step from commercially available materials. This drug has been shown to be efficacious in animal models of epilepsy, although it may also have other uses such as treatment of Parkinson's disease or schizophrenia. 3-Amino-5-fluorobenzonitrile is metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes in the liver and excreted mainly by the kidneys. It also inhibits nucleophilic reactions, but does not react with heteroaromatic rings or phenyl rings.
