6-Amino-2-naphthalenesulfonic acid is a reactive compound that can be used in a variety of chemical reactions. It is an intermediate for the synthesis of 1-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid, which has been used as a reagent to determine the quantity of amines in test samples. 6-Amino-2-naphthalenesulfonic acid reacts with serine protease and produces anthranilic acid, which can be detected using light emission spectroscopy. 6-Amino-2-naphthalenesulfonic acid also reacts with carbonyl groups to yield products that can be analyzed by magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS). The product of this reaction has been shown to have a nmr spectrum that peaks at 1.5 ppm.
