Description:
1-Acetylpiperidin-2-one is a fluorescent probe that can be used for the detection of lactams, including piperidones. 1-Acetylpiperidin-2-one is used in drug development and analytical methods to identify lactam compounds. It fluoresces at a wavelength of 335 nm in the presence of nucleophiles and protonates at pH 7. The tautomeric nature of 1-acetylpiperidin-2-one allows it to fluoresce in acidic conditions, which makes it useful as a pH indicator.
