Name:
4-Amino-2-bromothiazole
Synonyms:
  • 4-Thiazolamine, 2-Bromo-
  • 2-Bromothiazol-4-Amine
  • 2-Bromo-1,3-thiazol-4-amine
Description:

4-Amino-2-bromothiazole is a tricyclic compound that is an antibacterial agent. It is active against gram-negative bacteria and resistant to the beta-lactamase enzyme, which is found in some bacteria. The antibiotic binds to the ribosomal RNA of the bacteria and inhibits protein synthesis by preventing the release of amino acids from the ribosomes. 4-Amino-2-bromothiazole has been shown to have a spectrum that includes most gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including carbapenem resistant ones. This drug has a low therapeutic index and can cause toxic side effects when used at high doses.
