Description

(R)-3-Amino-1-benzylpiperidine is a lead compound with a pharmacokinetic profile suitable for in vivo studies. This drug inhibits the activity of 7-deazapurine, a purine analog that is used in the treatment of leukemia. (R)-3-Amino-1-benzylpiperidine has been shown to be selective for inhibition of this enzyme and not other enzymes such as alkane hydroxylase. The compound showed strong acidifying effects on the cellular environment, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the function of alkane hydroxylase. This inhibitor also showed selectivity for 7-deazapurine over other purines, such as adenosine and guanosine.
