Product Information

Name:
(5-Amino-2-chlorophenyl)methanol
Synonyms:
  • 5-Amino-2-chlorobenzyl alcohol
Description:

5-Amino-2-chlorophenyl)methanol is a quaternary ammonium salt that was synthesized by the reaction of an amine and an alkyl halide. It can be used as a catalyst for organic reactions, such as the synthesis of diazonium salts. 5-Amino-2-chlorophenyl)methanol has been shown to catalyze the condensation of nitrosobenzene and acetone in the presence of copper(II) sulfate. The kinetics of this reaction have been studied, showing that it follows first order kinetics with respect to both reactants, and that the half-life is 3 hours at room temperature. 5-Amino-2-chlorophenyl)methanol has also been found to be chiral.
