3-Acetylpyrrole is a chemical compound with the molecular formula CH3COCH2C6H5. It has a polarizability of 1.8, which means that it can be solvated by various solvents and have a dipole moment. 3-Acetylpyrrole can be synthesized by the Friedel-Crafts reaction between phenol and acetic anhydride. This reaction is catalyzed by aluminum chloride, and the product is hydrochloric acid as well as sodium hydrogen. The acetylation of 3-acetylpyrrole can be achieved through treatment with acetic anhydride in the presence of pyridine or triethylamine. Acetylation produces a carbonyl group at C6.
