2-Amino-6-methylpyridine is a chemical compound that is stable in the presence of oxygen and water. It can be synthesized by reacting picolinic acid with ammonia to form 2-amino-6-methylpyridine. The melting point for this compound is 165°C, and its boiling point is 290°C. The XRD data shows that it crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group P2(1)2(1). This compound has been shown to be carcinogenic in animal studies and may cause cancer in humans. Hydrogen bonding occurs between the carboxylate group and the hydroxyl group, as well as between the nitrogen atoms within the picolinic acid molecule.
