Product Information

Name:
3-Amino-4-iodobenzoic acid
Synonyms:
  • Benzoic Acid, 3-Amino-4-Iodo-
Description:

3-Amino-4-iodobenzoic acid (3AIBA) is a reactive compound that has shown efficacy in the treatment of malignant glioma. 3AIBA has been shown to be cytotoxic to a variety of virus strains, including herpes simplex and vesicular stomatitis virus. The cytotoxicity was caused by the release of reactive oxygen species and 3AIBA’s ability to inhibit viral DNA synthesis and RNA synthesis. This drug also showed efficacy in a radiation study against human leukemia cells in vitro. The mechanism of action is unknown, but it is hypothesized that it may work by inhibiting DNA replication or by inducing apoptosis. 3AIBA is an inactive prodrug that requires conversion into its active form before it can exert its effects.
