3-Aminopiperidine-2,6-dione is a peptide hormone that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties. It is a disulfide bond that is rapidly metabolized by peptidases in the blood and kidney, leading to a low plasma concentration. 3-Aminopiperidine-2,6-dione binds to the surface glycoprotein of macrophages and blocks the inflammatory response. It also inhibits the production of interleukin 2 (IL-2) from T cells and suppresses IgE production from B cells. This compound has been used as an adjuvant therapy for autoimmune diseases in mice. 3-Aminopiperidine-2,6-dione has also been shown to inhibit the growth of infectious bacteria by preventing protein synthesis or cell division by binding to ribosomes.
