MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells were treated with 5-amino-2-(4-amino-3-fluorophenyl)-6,8-difluoro-7-methyl-4H-[1]benzopyran-[4]-one and the apoptosis pathway was investigated. This drug inhibits cell proliferation and induces apoptosis in MDA-MB-[231] cells in vitro. The drug is able to induce apoptosis by binding to DNA and inhibiting transcription of the Bcl2 gene. Apoptosis is induced by disrupting mitochondrial membrane potential and inducing release of cytochrome c from mitochondria. This drug also inhibits the growth of bowel disease cells, body formation, and cell nuclei, which may be due to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis and DNA replication.
