1-Amino-3-methyladamantane is a soluble epoxide that is synthesized from the hydrolysis of 1,2,3-trimethyladamantane. It is used as an inhibitor of the enzyme epoxide hydrolase. 1-Amino-3-methyladamantane has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of both animal and human epoxide hydrolases. The inhibition activity against human epoxide hydrolase has been shown to be 100 times greater than that against rat epoxide hydrolase. Memantine hydrochloride is an analogue of 1-aminopropyladamantane and has been shown to inhibit amine uptake into brain synaptosomes in vitro.
