4-Amino-N-(3-methylisoxazol-5-yl)benzenesulfonamide is a white crystalline solid that belongs to the group of sulfonamides. It has been used as an antibiotic in the treatment of bacterial infections for decades. 4-Amino-N-(3-methylisoxazol-5-yl)benzenesulfonamide binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit and inhibits protein synthesis by preventing the formation of an enzyme complex with the 30S ribosomal subunit, which is required for peptide bond formation. This chemical also inhibits DNA synthesis and RNA synthesis, making it effective against both Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria.
