Naphthalene is a heterocyclic compound that has a single benzene ring fused to a naphthalene ring. This substance is an important intermediate in the synthesis of other organic compounds and is also used as a precursor to various dyes and pigments. Activation of naphthalene occurs by protonation, which can be achieved by using acidic conditions or by adding strong acids such as hydrochloric acid. Protonation leads to the formation of an unstable intermediate (naphthalen-2-yl cation) which undergoes electrophilic substitution with amines or methoxy groups on the aromatic ring. The resulting product is called 'Naphthol'. Prostaglandin synthetase catalyzes the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandin H2, which in turn is converted into prostaglandin E2 through the action of cyclooxygenase. Naphthalene can be converted into 2-amin
