4-Acetylphenylboronic acid is an organic molecule that is synthesized by the condensation of 4-acetylphenol and boron trichloride. It can be used as a fluorescence probe for detecting the mitochondrial membrane potential. This molecule has been shown to have anticancer activity in a number of cancer lines, including melanoma, breast cancer, leukemia, and prostate cancer. 4-Acetylphenylboronic acid has also been shown to stimulate epidermal growth factor (EGF) production and induce the expression of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). The optical properties of this compound are similar to those of other molecules that are found in human tissues. These properties make it suitable for use in imaging methods such as near infrared fluorescence microscopy.
