2-Acrylamidophenylboronic acid is a monomer that is used in the production of hyaluronic acid. It has been shown to be responsive to changes in pH and temperature, as well as being able to form copolymers with vinyl alcohol. The phase transition temperature of 2-acrylamidophenylboronic acid is 75°C. This polymerization process can be influenced by the pH of the solution, with acidic solutions leading to decreased polymerization rates and neutral or slightly basic solutions resulting in increased polymerization rates. The chloride ion has been shown to inhibit the reaction between 2-acrylamidophenylboronic acid and vinyl alcohol, so it is important to avoid its presence during copolymerization.
