Description:
Azido-erythro-sphingosine is a trisaccharide that contains a benzyl group at the C2 position. The synthesis of this molecule involves condensation of glycerone with 1,3-dibenzyl-2,4-dinitrobenzene followed by reduction with sodium borohydride and ethyl bromoacetate. This compound has been shown to be an antigenic determinant in myelogenous leukemia cells.
