3-Amino-propionic acid benzyl ester (3APBA) is a ligand that binds to the aminoacyl site of protein synthetase. 3APBA can activate protein synthesis in vitro and inhibit caspase activity, which has been shown to be due to its ability to bind with metal cations. It also shows affinity for fluorescent probes and has been used in biochemical studies as a model organism. 3APBA is used as a sensor for detecting the presence of amino acids or other ligands that interact with the aminoacyl site.
