- 2-Aminobicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-2-carboxylic acid
2-Amino-2-norbornanecarboxylic acid is a small molecule that inhibits the growth of cancer cells. It binds to the active site of cyclin dependent kinases, which are enzymes that regulate the cell cycle and control the progression from G1 phase to S phase. This binding prevents phosphorylation of retinoblastoma protein by cyclin dependent kinase, leading to cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. 2-Amino-2-norbornanecarboxylic acid has been shown to have anti-proliferative effects on prostate cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. Studies have also shown that 2-amino-2 norbornanecarboxylic acid may be effective in treating other types of cancers such as leukemia, colon cancer, breast cancer, melanoma, and pancreatic cancer.
