Description:

Apramycin is an antibiotic that belongs to the group of sulfa drugs. It has been shown to be effective against urinary infections caused by Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Apramycin has been used in combination with other antibiotics to treat a variety of infectious diseases including tuberculosis, cholera, and malaria. The long-term toxicity and pharmacological effects of apramycin are unknown. Apramycin inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit and blocks protein synthesis. This drug also inhibits the production of RNA from DNA-dependent RNA polymerase.
