- 2-Amino-b-phenylpyridine2-Acetamido-5-phenylpyridineN-(5-Phenyl-2-pyridinyl)acetamide
N-Acetyl-2-amino-5-phenylpyridine is a hydroxamate, which is an organic compound that contains both amine and hydroxamic acid functional groups. It has been shown to be carcinogenic in animal studies. N-Acetyl-2-amino-5-phenylpyridine has been synthesized from phenylalanine and tritiated hydroxylamine. The biological studies of this chemical have demonstrated that it is not mutagenic, but can cause genetic damage to the cell's DNA under certain conditions. Pretreatment with N-acetyl-2 amino 5 phenyl pyridine can increase the mutagenicity of other chemicals, such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). This chemical also has been shown to be carcinogenic in animal studies and can cause cancer when given orally or injected into laboratory animals.
