Product Information
Albendazole sulfoxide is a metabolite of albendazole that can be found in the urine and blood plasma of humans. Albendazole sulfoxide has been shown to have a strong inhibitory effect on the growth of human hepatoma cells. Albendazole sulfoxide is an endoparasitic drug that prevents the formation of cysteine, which is required for the synthesis of proteins. This activity may be due to its ability to oxidise sulphydryl groups and detoxify sulfhydryl compounds in host cells. The active metabolite, albendazole sulfone, has also been isolated from rats. It inhibits the growth of animal helminths by inhibiting protein synthesis, which leads to their death.
