Anthrone is an organic compound that is used to treat wastewater. It can be activated by the addition of hydrogen chloride, which produces the anhydrous sodium salt and a hydroxyl group. The activated anthrone can then react with fatty acids to form an ester, which can be hydrolyzed to produce glycerol and the desired product. Anthrone has been shown to have inhibitory properties against many microorganisms, including bacteria and fungi. It also has hypoglycemic effects in mice, as well as antidiabetic effects in rats and rabbits. Anthrone is chemically stable and has no known toxicity or adverse side effects.
