Aluminium boride is an inorganic chemical that has a high resistance to thermal expansion, making it a good material for engineering applications. It has been shown to react with both hydrochloric acid and chloroform, producing the reaction intermediates aluminum chloride and boron trifluoride. Aluminum boride has been used as a cross-linking agent in organic chemistry. It reacts with the polymer polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) at room temperature to form PVDF-aluminium boron nitride complexes. The structural analysis of these compounds reveals that the aluminum boron nitride complex is composed of two parts: One part is a cross-linked network of aluminium oxide and aluminium nitride nanoclusters that are interconnected by bridging oxygen atoms, while the other part is an amorphous phase containing aluminium oxide clusters.
