Description

2-(1-Adamantyl)-4-bromoanisole is a molecule that is used as a synthetic intermediate for the preparation of adapalene, which is an acne medication. This molecule has been shown to have dimethylsulfate, ethylene, and grignard reagent properties. 2-(1-Adamantyl)-4-bromoanisole is synthesized from 1-adamantanol and dihedral methylating agents such as methyl iodide or methyl bromide. The localization of this molecule in the body can be determined using centroid analysis by mass spectrometry. 2-(1-Adamantyl)-4-bromoanisole undergoes basic hydrolysis to form bromophenols when exposed to water or alkali metals such as magnesium.
