Description:

5-(N-Acetoacetylamino)ethanol is a reagent that is activated by laser irradiation and can be used to desorb molecules from surfaces. This tag can be used in ultrasensitive detection of amines, which are compounds that contain a nitrogen atom in the molecule. It has been shown to be useful for the detection of trace amounts of amines, such as cationic dyes and aniline, on metal surfaces. This reagent is also useful for derivatization reactions with amines. The tagged amine can be identified by laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry or electrospray ionization mass spectrometry.
