Product Information
- Aldosterone 21-monoacetate(11b)-21-(Acetyloxy)-11,18-epoxy-18-hydroxy-pregn-4-ene-3,20-dione
Aldosterone 21-acetate is a conjugate of aldosterone and acetate that is used as an antihypertensive agent. Aldosterone binds to the mineralocorticoid receptor, which can regulate sodium and potassium ion transport in the kidneys. This leads to increased blood pressure by retaining sodium in the body. The administration of aldosterone 21-acetate has been shown to lower blood pressure by increasing the excretion of potassium ions. Aldosterone binds to the erythrocyte membrane, leading to increased osmotic water retention and vasoconstriction. It also causes decreased renal excretion of sodium ions, which leads to hypertension.
