Allylprodine hydrochloride is an analgesic drug that belongs to the group of phenylpiperidines. Allylprodine hydrochloride has high potency, with a potency ratio of 1:5 when compared to morphine. It has been shown that allylprodine hydrochloride has a conformational interaction with the receptor site, which is responsible for its high potency. Allylprodine hydrochloride binds to the phenylpiperidine receptor site and interacts with it in a stereochemical manner. This binding induces conformational changes in the receptor site, leading to the activation of G-protein receptors and subsequent activation of adenylate cyclase. This leads to an increase in cAMP levels and an inhibition of voltage-gated Ca2+ channels, resulting in analgesia.
