9-Aminononanoic acid is a fatty acid that is found in the body and can be synthesized from other amino acids. It has been shown to have antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties. 9-Aminononanoic acid has been shown to inhibit the growth of S. aureus strains, herpes simplex virus (HSV), and Staphylococcus epidermidis. It also inhibits the production of polylactic acid (PLA) by Streptomyces lividans. The bacteriostatic effect of aminononanoic acid may be due to its ability to conjugate with chloride ions, preventing their uptake by bacteria. Aminononanoic acid is synthesized from 9-aminoundecanoic acid by ammonolysis or amide formation with fatty esters such as oleic or linoleic acids.
