Description:
1-Amino-1-cyclopentanecarboxylic acid methyl ester is an inhibitor of neutral endopeptidase, a serine protease that is involved in the processing of many hormones. It has a trifluoromethyl group and an ethoxycarbonyl group at the amino terminus, which may be important for its affinity to the enzyme. 1-Amino-1-cyclopentanecarboxylic acid methyl ester binds to residues on the enzyme and prevents it from performing its function. This inhibition can be reversed by adding isopropyl alcohol, but not by adding water or methanol. 1-Amino-1-cyclopentanecarboxylic acid methyl ester also inhibits other enzymes such as chymotrypsin and trypsin.
