3-Amino-2,2-dimethylpropanamide is a hydrophilic compound that can be used as an enantiopure chemical intermediate. It has been shown to have activity in the methylation of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and can be used for diagnostic purposes. 3-Amino-2,2-dimethylpropanamide is also an active methylene in pharmaceutical dosage forms and has been shown to have a diagnostic application. It is soluble in water and may be prepared by ammonolysis of ethyl acetate or by scalable synthesis from ammonia and formaldehyde. Amide formation is possible with 3-amino-2,2-dimethylpropanamide through reaction with hydrochloric acid.
