4-Amino-3,5-xylenol is a metabolite of the drug aminophenol. It is an aromatic compound that can be oxidized to 4-aminoquinone and 4-aminophenol. It has been shown to inhibit human cytochrome P450 enzymes and human liver microsomes. The optical properties of 4-amino-3,5-xylenol are similar to those of 1,4-benzoquinone and 2,6-naphthoquinone. This compound also has been shown to have cytotoxic effects in human lymphocytes and ovary cells with a high affinity for nucleophilic groups. Monoclonal antibodies against 4-amino-3,5-xylenol have been generated by immunizing mice with this drug. Chemical inhibitors of 4-amino-3,5 xylenol include trifluoromethyl group and aminophen
