Description

2-Amino-3,6-dihydro-3-methyl-7H-imidazo[4,5-f]quinolin-7-one is a prodrug that is converted to its active form by nitroreductase enzymes in the colon. This drug has been shown to induce apoptosis in human colon cancer cells via inhibition of the epidermal growth factor receptor and induction of reactive oxygen species. In animal models, this drug has been shown to inhibit growth of bacteria such as Salmonella enterica by inhibiting bacterial enzyme activity. 2AAQ has also been shown to be effective against inflammatory bowel disease in humans and animals and may have a role in preventing or treating outbreaks.
