3-Amino-4-bromopyrazole (3ABP) is an additive that is used to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. It has been shown to inhibit colchicine-induced cancer cell death in a dose-dependent manner, and inhibited mouse melanoma tumor growth in mice. 3ABP has also been shown to inhibit human liver cells that contain cancerous lesions. 3ABP is synthesized by cross-coupling with bromoacetyl chloride, which yields the desired product as well as other unwanted byproducts. The yield of 3ABP can be increased by using a different reaction mechanism such as electrolysis with potassium cyanide, or by adding pyrazolyl to the reaction mixture. This anticancer agent also inhibits tubulin polymerization and causes DNA destruction during radiation treatment, leading to cell death.
