Description:

2-Amino-4-chloro-5-nitropyridine is an amino function that inhibits the enzyme transcriptase. 2-Amino-4-chloro-5-nitropyridine is a competitive inhibitor of HIV reverse transcriptase and can be used to treat HIV infections. The ethyl esters of 2-amino-4, 5 nitropyridines are also potent inhibitors of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV) and have been shown to inhibit malonate degradation in the presence of wild type and mutant HIV enzymes. This inhibition was found to be due to the inhibition of the 3'-end processing by transcriptase. These compounds were shown to bind reversibly with high affinity at the active site of RNA polymerase II, which may lead to enhanced binding affinity for nucleic acid substrates. Molecular modeling studies suggest that these compounds would be better inhibitors if they were diethyl esters rather than ethyl esters
