4-Amino-D,L-benzylsuccinic acid is a pharmaceutical drug that belongs to the class of organic compounds. It is used to lower high blood pressure and cerebral edema. 4-Amino-D,L-benzylsuccinic acid also has anticancer properties and can be used in the treatment of cancer. This compound binds to intracellular calcium ions and inhibits enzymes that are involved in the synthesis of nucleic acids and proteins. The mechanism of this effect is not known, but it may be due to diazonium salt formation or silver ion release. 4-Amino-D,L-benzylsuccinic acid has been shown to have a pharmacologic effect on the body when administered orally or intravenously at a dosage of 100 mg/kg for 3 days.
