- 2-Thiophenecarboxylic Acid, 4-Amino-
4-Amino-2-thiophenecarboxylic acid is a potent inhibitor of transaminase enzymes. It also inhibits gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) esters, which are the metabolic products of GABA. 4-Amino-2-thiophenecarboxylic acid inhibits the enzyme gamma aminobutyric acid transaminase, which converts GABA to an excitatory neurotransmitter, and prevents its conversion to an inhibitory neurotransmitter. This drug has been shown to be effective for the treatment of seizures caused by epilepsy or other neurological disorders.
