N-(2-Aminoethyl)-5-isoquinolinesulfonamide is a cyclic peptide that binds to the alpha subunit of guanine nucleotide regulatory protein (G protein). It is used as an immunosuppressant in the treatment of autoimmune diseases. N-(2-Aminoethyl)-5-isoquinolinesulfonamide inhibits the production of nitric oxide, which has been shown to contribute to the development of congestive heart failure and infectious diseases. This drug also has a depressant effect on neurons in the cerebellar granule layer.
N-(2-Aminoethyl)-5-isoquinolinesulfonamide binds to G protein by competitive inhibition, which prevents its interaction with other proteins and thus blocks signal transduction from G protein to adenylate cyclase. The binding site for this drug is located at the interface between alpha and beta subunits of G protein. This drug also inhibits
