5-(2-Aminoethyl)dithio-2-nitrobenzoic acid is a heterobifunctional reagent that can be used in the synthesis of amides and esters. It is a light yellow powder that is soluble in water and has a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min at 25°C. The product has been shown to have mutagenic properties, although it does not interfere with DNA replication or transcription. 5-(2-Aminoethyl)dithio-2-nitrobenzoic acid has also been shown to be carcinogenic when tested on rats, but not mice. It has an absorption maximum of 340 nm, which corresponds to its spectrum. This product will react with sulfhydryl groups and form a yellow precipitate at elevated temperatures.
