N-(p-Aminophenethyl)spiperone is an ethylene diamine derivative that binds to the dopamine D2 receptor. It has been shown to induce a decrease in the production of fatty acids and cholesterol in mammalian tissue, which may be due to its ability to block the breakdown of these substances by inhibiting the enzyme acyl coenzyme A. This drug also has effects on other metabolic disorders such as diabetes, including inhibition of glucose absorption and decreased insulin levels. N-(p-Aminophenethyl)spiperone has been found to be effective in lowering blood pressure in humans with atherosclerotic lesions due to its ability to inhibit sodium salt uptake by the kidneys. This drug also has a detergent-like effect on apical membranes, leading to increased permeability of erythrocytes, leukocytes, and platelets through these membranes.
