4-(3-Aminophenyl)butyric acid, hydrochloride is a potent antagonist of the histamine H2 receptor. It has oral bioavailability and is selective for the H2 receptor in binding studies with rat brain membranes. This compound has been shown to be a lead compound that can be used to develop new drugs for the treatment of gastric ulcers and other gastrointestinal disorders. 4-(3-Aminophenyl)butyric acid, hydrochloride binds to the protein-coupled receptor at one or more sites and blocks the ligand from binding, thereby blocking activation of the receptor.
