4-Aminopiperidine-4-carboxylic acid is a nonprotonated, acidic, organic compound. It is the synthetic precursor to 4-amino piperidines that are synthesized using malonic acid and tripeptides. This compound has been shown to possess significant cytotoxicity in cells. 4-Aminopiperidine-4-carboxylic acid can also form amide bonds with phenylethyl groups, which may account for its amphipathic nature. The helical structure of this compound is due to the presence of two amino groups and one carboxyl group. The helical structure of this molecule accounts for the high degree of hydrophobicity and its ability to form hydrogen bonds with neighboring molecules.
