Product Information
2-Amino-3-hydroxy-3-phenylpropanoic acid is a nonessential amino acid that is used in biochemical reactions as a substrate and reactant. It is an intermediate in the metabolism of l-threonine and can be synthesized from 3-phenylpropanoic acid by the enzyme phenylalanine racemase. The enzyme has two subunits, one metal ion, and one cofactor binding site for the substrate 2-amino-3-hydroxypropanoic acid. This amino acid also plays a role in many important physiological functions such as protein synthesis, genetic expression, short chain fatty acids, and metal ion transport.
