L-2-Aminothiazoline-4-carboxylic acid (LACA) is a silylating agent that can be used to extract organic molecules from complex matrices, such as human urine. LACA has been shown to be effective in the extraction of plasma samples and human urine, with a detection limit of 0.1 μg/mL. LACA is also used for the quantification of cations in human plasma samples and can be used for the separation of enantiomers. It can also be synthesized from 2-(chloromethyl)-4-aminothiazole and methanethiol via an alkylation reaction. LACA is often used as an eluent for HPLC analysis due to its ability of eluting compounds from silica gel with a low level of ionic strength.
